New in April 2014 - Swedish Covenant Hospital receives an “A” Hospital Safety Score for the fifth time in a row from The Leapfrog Group! Read more>>

Swedish Covenant Hospital has been named a 2013 Top Hospital by The Leapfrog Group!
We are the only hospital in Chicago to receive this highly-selective honor this year. This prestigious designation comes on the heels of our fourth consecutive “A” hospital safety grade from The Leapfrog Group.

Many other Chicago hospitals completed the Leapfrog Hospital Survey this year, but they did not earn Top Hospital recognition. Past recipients include Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Rush University Medical Center. This award recognizes Top Hospitals for their lower infection rates, better-than-expected rates of survival for high risk procedures, safety practices which prevent medication errors and other complications, overall value as demonstrated by quality measure performance and resource use, and their achievement of an A Hospital Safety Score from the Leapfrog Group.

Swedish Covenant Hospital Awarded for Stroke Care
We are proud to have been recognized by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for excellence in stroke care.

“Swedish Covenant Hospital’s multi-disciplinary stroke team has worked tirelessly to develop protocols to immediately identify and treat signs of stroke,” says Kathryn Donofrio, associate vice president of nursing and director of cardiology. “This recognition is further evidence of our ongoing commitment to improving the lives of our stroke patients.”

We recently earned the Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke Bronze Quality Achievement Award on our first submission after having met specific stroke diagnosis and treatment measures for 90 consecutive days (Silver and Gold honors are awarded after 12 and 24 months, respectively). These measures include proper use of medications and therapies aimed at reducing death and disability, as well as improving quality of life for stroke patients.

This award provides further evidence of our ongoing commitment to excellent stroke care. As a designated Primary Stroke Center, we work hard to ensure that we are prepared to address all of our stroke patients' needs. According to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, stroke is the number four cause of death in the United States, and it is a leading cause of adult disability. It is because of teamwork and partnerships across the hospital that we have been able to develop an excellent stroke team response and offer the best care for our patients.

Our multi-disciplinary stroke team includes members of our critical care, rehabilitation services, nursing, radiology, lab and medical staffs.

Swedish Covenant Hospital recognized for multiple specialties!
In this year's annual hospital rankings, U.S. News & World Report ranked us as "high performing" in five specialty areas! We outrank other hospitals in: gastroenterology and GI surgery; geriatrics; nephrology; neurology and neurosurgery; and, pulmonology.

Swedish Covenant Hospital works closely with other organizations across the city to provide comprehensive health services for our patients. For example, our cancer care affiliation with Rush University Medical Center allows us to provide our community with access to specialized cancer treatment and services, without having to travel far from home. Our pediatrics affiliation with the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago brings some of the city’s best pediatric specialists right to our healing campus. And, our work with Erie Family Health Center helps us expand health services and provide high-quality, low-cost care for our community. These affiliations allow us to combine our own expertise with the skills and resources of other specialists in the city, ensuring that the needs of our patients are met.

We are proud of our extensive accreditations and certifications which demonstrate our ongoing commitment to excellence in teaching and patient care:
